Catching up with… us

Another story with the Red Bull tag. This one, a pretty good interview with yours truly on the history of the band, and what’s coming next.

“Musically, there are two versions of the band that I see,” guitarist Jim Tuerk says. “One, the rock-n-rollers playing loudly [and] flying off the rails. And two, the emphatic singer-songwriter. The former is what most see at our live shows, but the latter is what all of us in the band draw from.”

That split personality of charisma and soul, as well as stellar musicianship, is what landed the indie rock juggernaut a spot on Red Bull’s Rock The Route Tour.

Recording at RB Studios LA

We were out in LA this past weekend recording at the Red Bull Studios. It was a great time reconnecting with the production team of Rock The Route, and meeting some new people.

In the two days we spent there, we were able to track two new tunes—one called Touch and the other called Wake The Dead—as well as lay down some overdubs on some other tracks. All of these tracks and more are nearing completion and are slated for release on our next record. Whereas we’re not quite finished, I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

More news on that as it comes in. For now, we have two awards to give out for the weekend…

The BMA Spirit Award splits between engineer Eric “Five-skis” Stenman and cellist Alison Chesley who’s contributions and positive vibes were invaluable.

The BMA/Max Crawford Total-Pro Award goes to Joe Darnaby for remembering his 12-string guitar case, but not his 12-string guitar. —Hope you make it home, bro!

Rock the Route Ep 9: Guitar Shootout

As we make our way to a couple gigs this week in Indiana and Ohio, the folks at Red Bull see us off with the penultimate Rock The Route episode. Many thanks.

In a ghost town somewhere we don’t quite remember, both bands formed into one and played a bluesy shuffle for Joe and Cody (from Young Jesus) to blaze over. What’s missing here is footage of the firework fight and BMA victoriously lighting smoke bombs in the close-windowed van after the shoot. Ah well… Save it for the blooper reel!

Whoa, Joe! I heard a couple heady Jerry riffs in there, brah!

Thanks for the props, Eddie. We think Joe’s pretty wicked, too.
