Underground lyrics

When the bombs were coming down,
Eating supper underground,
Can’t believe how much burned down,
While we kept up the appearance of normalcy.

Things can’t go on that way,
Showing up in the mistakes you’ve made,
Things aren’t really that OK,
Like you’ve been telling yourself for days.
I’ve stared as long as you,
At all the things we see right through,
Waiting for universal proof,
But there’s only people and moments that sing:

“Glory, Hallelujah,
To the King and Savior”
The fire’s been flaring,
Failing your failures.

How bad you need to believe,
In how great it all could be,
As romantic as it sometimes seems
Passing through nightmares into these dreams,
Forever etched in my brain,
The unknown symbol of the greatest pain
Dressed up in those hand-me-downs,
Let it come up from the underground, and sing:

“Glory, Hallelujah,
To the King and Savior”
The fire’s been flaring,
Failing your failures.

Oh, let my aching head,
Beat out a path for me,
Lead me back to the sea,
We all crawled out of.

So I may stand and know,
That all before me grows,
Dragging the past in toe,
Encompassing all that’s been.
